What are Resident Assistants, Apartment Managers, & Hall Directors?
Resident Assistants are upper class students living in the residence halls that serve as advisors, mediators, and programmers, as well as report potential infractions of University policy.
The Resident Assistant is the first person students should approach with roommate conflicts and personal concerns.
The Resident Assistants are also resources and are able to refer students to the appropriate University services and personnel.
Resident Assistants are sensitive to the needs of students, whether personal, social or academic.

Apartment Managers are staff in the apartment areas (Alumni Square, East Campus, Henle Village, and Village A). Apartment Managers will work directly with the Hall Director or Area Coordinator in that complex to support their administrative work.
Regular duties would include inspections of area apartments, tracking of facilities requests, assisting in monitoring the facilities of the area, posting information for apartment residents, serving as a liaison to the RHO in that area, weekly meetings with Community Council, supervisor, and staff.
The Apartment Manager will also assist and plan programs while performing other general administrative tasks.

Our professional staff includes Hall Directors, who are experienced Student Affairs staff members who manage the residence halls and apartment complexes. The Senior Staff work to maintain a high quality of life in the residence halls, assist residents with problems, handle emergencies and encourage responsible behavior.
Hall Directors’ responsibilities also include coordination with Housing Services and other University departments such as Facilities, Housekeeping and the Department of Public Safety.
Hall Directors supervise the Resident Assistants in the traditional residence halls, as well as oversee the development of educational, social, cultural and spiritual programs. In the apartment areas, the Hall Director develops student resident leadership to create an active residential environment.
What to expect from ResHall Living?
Okay, this seems like a very broad question. More specifics would be great, but here are the following topics addressed. I’ve also checked with Erika from NSO to see if they have any thoughts/ideas
1.) Roommates: Most students at Georgetown live with at least one roommate, particularly their first-year. For more information on living with a roommate visit (OUR LINK TO THAT STUFF HERE).
If you would like to learn more about selecting a roommate, please visit the Office of Housing Service’s information on that topic at (LINK HERE TO CHARoommateS INFORoommateATION ETC).
New students have the opportunity to meet students through the online CHARoommateS system (link) and current students can pick from other students at Georgetown. Currently first-year students and upper-class students do not live together, except in Living-Learning Communities (LINK).
2.) Resident Assistants: In the residence halls, there is approximately one Resident Assistant for each floor. Resident Assistants are student-leaders who work for the Office of Residence Life to promote a safe and enjoyable living and learning atmosphere in the residence halls.
Resident Assistants offer programs for residents to attend, serve as a peer resource on the floor for a variety of issues, serve in an on-call capacity during evening hours, and are liaisons between the Office of Residence Life and the residents.
For more information about Resident Assistants click here (OUR LINK TO THE DESCRIPTION OF Resident AssistantS…or we could just paste that content here).
Resident Assistants are also supervised by the Hall Director or Area Coordinator (LINKS TO THOSE DESCRIPTIONS), a professional staff member for each building. To meet our staff in each building click HERE (link to building staff)
3.) Apartment Managers: Students living in apartments do not currently have Resident Assistants. Instead, the Office of Residence Life has hired student apartment managers to offer programming, serve on call during weekend evenings, communicate with residents, and assist with the running of the apartment complexes.
Apartment Managers report to a professional Hall Director or Area Coordinator for their complex LINKS TO THOSE DESCRIPTIONS.
To read more about the Apartment Manager role click HERE (link). To learn about the staff in a particular apartment area, click here (LINKS TO BUILDING STAFFS).
4.) Facilities: To see the facilities in the particular halls click here (LINK TO HOUSING INFORoommateATION).
5.) What to bring: Students should carefully consider what they wish to bring to campus.
Information on that can best be found here.
For tips on room décor and other optional items, visit (LINK HERE)
6.) New Student Orientation: For new students arriving at Georgetown, New Student Orientation (NSO) will be an important event the first few days on campus. Please visit their website at nso.georgetown.edu for more information.
